As Big Pharma and the Democrats push their reckless agenda to increase government spending and expand government overreach before President Trump can take office in a few weeks, conservative leaders and organizations remain steadfast in opposition against a massive year-end spending package that is filled with Democrat and Big Pharma giveaways. Passing a monstrous 1,000 page spending deal would be detrimental to the Trump and GOP agenda.
PJ Media published commentary urging Congress to pass a clean CR:
“The solution is clear: Congress must pass a “skinny” CR that does the bare minimum to keep the government running while preserving the new Congress and president’s leverage to address these issues their way in 2025. A clean slate is critical to advancing President Trump’s agenda and tackling the disastrous policies that Biden and the Democrats left behind. Anything less would tie the hands of the incoming Congress and undermine the very promises that brought Republicans to power.”
FOX News reported on Republican disapproval of the massive spending package:
“Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Mo., was furious about health care provisions included in discussions in recent days … ‘I think it’s absolutely disgusting to bring forward a several-thousand-page bill that nobody’s read, even today, nobody’s even seen it, and then they expect us to vote on it without any debate.’
“Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, told reporters, ‘Swamp is going to swamp, right?’ ‘Fourteen hundred pages. Still haven’t seen the text. Multiple subject matters. Important health care legislation in the context of extenders piled on the back of a three-month CR with about $110 billion unpaid for,’ Roy said. ‘This is not the way to do business.’”
The Washington Examiner highlighted the rushed timeline of the CR, leaving no room for proper review:
“But while some lawmakers are upset with the bill’s contents, most are upset with the lack of information about the details in the three-month CR just days before lawmakers are supposed to vote on it.
“‘Same crap we already knew,’ one House Republican said of the briefing Johnson gave on Tuesday morning. ‘No text. No timeline.’”
The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW), a government spending watchdog, sent a strong message to Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and Senate Minority Whip John Thune in a letter, urging them to stand firm against backdoor health care legislation included in the CR:
“Without moving major healthcare legislation through regular order, there is no opportunity to hold hearings and provide transparency for the impact on the economy, patients, taxpayers, and businesses …
“Healthcare legislation that has not been voted on by the full House and Senate should be excluded from the CR.”
